Hazy-lovely

Monday, December 31, 2012

I found the loveliest tumblr page last night, full of some of the prettiest images I have seen in a long time. These are some of my favourites.

The one above makes me wish for autumn again. Hazy mornings, moist earth and that sweet rotting-leaf smell that I love so much, and my husband hates because it smells like the death of summer.

Winter

Winter. I kinda hate it. Though I guess it has its moments too. Especially when you are bundled up and toasty. I do derive more joy out of it when the dog has clearly has such a good time.

MOCCA. you are good times.

I just love popping into MOCCA when I'm around Queen Street. Especially when it's a respite from the cold and the wind. There is always some awesome exhibit going on. I love the intimacy of the space, and how I always discover something new.

a spot of weather

It was a really windy and cloudy day, but the dogs didn't care.

The sky here is fantastic

House sitting for my mom this weekend. The sky here is always spectacular. I know how cliche it is to photograph sunsets, but I couldn't resist. Also, I accidentally startled some geese.

Aran sweaters used to identify dead bodies?

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

(Atlantic-Pacific)

Ahh... the fisherman sweater! The coziest of cozies! The warmthiest of the warmths! (wat?)

But does underneath all that wooly goodness lie a morbid truth?

(from Plaidout)

There is a legend that Fishermen/Aran Sweaters, with their unique knit patterns, were used in Ireland to identify the bodies of fishermen washed up on shore. Apparently this myth was based on a 1904 play Riders to the Sea, by J. M. Synge (where a wife identifies her husband's body based on the stitching of his sweater). The more you know!

I want to hang these on my walls

A couple weeks ago we were strolling through the gallery district in Toronto, when I saw this Little Red Riding Hood print through a gallery window. The hubby was skilled enough at Google to find the artist online for me. Lara Zombie is the bestest.

I think my sister-in-law would like this unicorn...

Career benefits of having kids earlier

Came upon this article that gives some very convincing reasons to have kids in your mid twenties, as opposed to waiting until you have an established career in your mid-thirties.
